MOTHER’S DAY – IT’S ABOUT TIME

on .

By Grace Van Zyl

Before we all rush out to buy gifts to honor our mothers let’s take a look at how Mother’s Day came to be a day celebrated in most countries around the world.

Mother’s day was first celebrated in 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother. Anna’s mission was to honor her own mother by continuing work she started and to set aside a day to honor mothers, "the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world".

Anna soon became resentful of the commercialization of this special day. The holiday that she worked so hard for was supposed to be about sentiment, not about profit, the intention for the holiday had been for people to appreciate and honor mothers by writing a personal letter, by hand, expressing love and gratitude, rather than buying gifts and pre-made cards.

So what do we give this special woman in our lives? Gifts will probably bring joy but the memory of this is short lived, the Time you give or take to make mom feel loved, appreciated and special is everlasting. So take the time to write that personal letter of gratitude, or to make a phone call or even spend an hour with mom. In so doing not only will you have a truly happy mom but you will strengthen and deepen your relationship with her. And if you are a new mom or dad you will be setting an example to your young ones about the deeper meaning of Mother’s Day.

To all the Mom’s out there, we wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day filled with quality time with your children.
May you feel loved and appreciated not just on the 10th of May, but every day.

Creating Financial Freedom

on .

By Jason Bernic - Financial Planning Coach

In a world where people are living longer, prices continue to rise, and you can’t work forever, how do you ensure that you have enough money to last a lifetime? To create financial freedom is to plan so that you can live the life you want to live, without wondering how long your money will last or whether you have enough to buy the things you want to.

You could play the lotto but your chance of winning is one in almost 14 million, and most lotto winners blow their money and worry about their futures anyway. You’d prefer to live a life without worry – one without financial burden, one that allows you the freedom of security – and to achieve this, you need a plan.

Understanding your current assets, liabilities, income and expenditure only paints today’s picture but we need more than that to set a course of action. To some it may be surprising to hear a financial planner talk about lifestyle goals when you thought you were going to talk about money, but understanding your desired future gives your plan direction. At first you may not understand the necessity of describing the details of your retirement 20 years away, or the items on your to-do list, but they all require monetary provisions that need to be considered in your financial plan. The difference between public and private school will fundamentally affect your financial position as will how often you purchase cars, go on holidays, play golf and drink fine wine in amazing locations.

Setting goals, big and small, is an essential step to financial freedom. Take the time to think about where you want to live, how you want to live and what you want to do. Build it up without limitation and then narrow it down, but keep some of the wish list because goals are not only what you need but also what you want.

Seek the advice of a good financial planner that will use your goals to plot your future, relative to your current reality, and keep you on track through regular reviews. She should advise you as to courses of action that will eliminate debt, promote savings, provide for retirement and possibly even leave something for your grandchildren. A sound plan will set you on course to achieve your goals, reduce your worry and give you the freedom to live as you desire.

What does free mean?
Financially free….?

Assets, no debt, passive income, money running out after you die, not worrying, comfortable, providing for others, leaving a legacy.

PLAN early
Seek advice
Make sure you’re on track
Review regularly
Set big goals
Think of the life you want to lead, when you want to lead it and be realistic

Aspire Hosts a Shoe Drive

Dare to go barefoot for a day in May and make a difference?

Aspire Wealth Management has taken up The Potato Foundations challenge to go barefoot for a day in May in order to create awareness for the less privileged in our community.

The aim of this awareness day is to not only enjoy being  free of heels for a day but also to experience how it feels for a person who does not have any shoes to wear this winter.  If you are not keen on going absolutely barefoot, you can dress up your feet for the day with anything made out of everyday ordinary items and glam up those toenails.

Take a photo and post it to our and The Potato Foundation’s Facebook page
Aspire Wealth Management
The Potato Foundation and join in on the fun

We motivate our clients to pop into the office and bring along a pair of shoes that you no longer wear during the month of May to support this shoe drive. You can make a difference in someone’s life without spending any money. We will then gladly distribute every pair of shoes received to the local community based projects.

If you are not situated near our offices in Benoni but would like to contribute to a shoe drive, please feel free to contact Angelique van der Linde at The Potato Foundation on 082 967 6258.
